When Micah Kreikemeier checked the caller ID, he could hardly believe it. “Thomas Osborne,” it read.
Tom Osborne? That Tom Osborne, the Nebraska football coaching legend and current interim athletic director/recruiting coordinator?
It was.
Osborne told the tight end from West Point (Neb.) Central Catholic that he liked the film sent in by his high school coach and that he wanted to offer him a scholarship.
“I asked him, ‘Like a full ride?’ ” Micah told The Associated Press.
“That’s the only one we offer,” Osborne replied.
“I’ll take it then,” Micah said.
The call Sunday lasted five minutes. Osborne asked Micah how his high school coach was doing, how his dad was doing on the farm and how he was doing playing basketball. Osborne later introduced Bo Pelini as the new Nebraska coach.
