COLORADO SPRINGS — The El Paso County coroner’s office has ruled the death of a Fort Carson soldier whose body was found Nov. 3 in a reservoir a suicide.
The coroner’s office said Shawn Michael Stoddard, 29, committed suicide by drowning. No drugs or alcohol were found in his system.
Stoddard’s body was found at Springs Run Reservoir after family members hired a private helicopter pilot to search from the air.
Stoddard served two tours in Iraq. He is survived by a wife and two children.
