One of the victims of December 9th’s New Life Church shooting in Colorado Springs was escorted off church property Sunday.
Colorado Springs police reported in their online blotter that Larry Bourbonnais was asked to leave by church leaders.
Larry Bourbonnais, 59, left peacefully after he arrived Sunday to attend a service, police said.
“We felt he was a bit volatile this morning, and we did not want any disruption to our service,” Senior Pastor Brady Boyd said.
Church members prayed Sunday for Bourbonnais and other victims of Matthew Murray, a gunman who also attacked a missionary training school in Arvada.
Matthew Murray’s armed assault at New Life Church took the lives of 18-year-old Stephanie and 16-year-old Rachel Works.
Their father, 51-year-old David Works, continues to recover from his wounds and was not in attendance Sunday. Two other members of the congregation were wounded before volunteer security guard Jeanne Assam shot and wounded Murray, who then fatally shot himself.
Bourbonnais told KRDO-TV in Colorado Springs that New Life officials were unhappy over his criticism of another security guard whom Bourbonnais said would not confront the gunman.
“They said I denigrated the security staff and made them look bad,” Bourbonnais said.
Police said Bourbonnais left the grounds peacefully.
“He cooperated, and we told him that he wasn’t welcome back on the property,” police Sgt. Lonnie Spanswick said.
Boyd said church officials would contact Bourbonnais to try to reach an “amicable” resolution. He didn’t elaborate.
