Two films by the late French director Albert Lamorisse will be shown at the Starz FilmCenter starting today. The short film “The Red Balloon,” above, from 1956 is a film you’ve probably seen if you’ve ever taken a film-history class. It concerns a little boy who finds a helium-filled balloon. As he plays with it, he discovers the balloon will follow him all over Paris. The second, “The White Mane,” is a 1953 film set in a marsh area in the south of France where a boy finds a white-haired wild horse. It escapes and the film follows his efforts to find it again.
