PHOENIX—Phoenix police say they’re investigating what appears to be the kidnapping of an illegal immigrant smuggler by a rival human smuggling ring.
Police Detective Stacie Derge said Sunday the department got a call at about 10:45 p.m. Saturday from a kidnapping victim who had escaped from a west Phoenix home.
She says the man told police three other men were still being held.
When officers went to the home, they found two men bound at the wrists and feet. The fourth man had been taken by the suspects and had not been found as of Sunday.
Investigators believe the four men who were held against their will are part of a human smuggling ring. They believe the fourth man was the main smuggler of the group, and was taken by rival smugglers.
Derge says family members are not being cooperative with police, hindering the investigation.
