DURANGO, Colo.—The La Plata County coroner says a skier who died last weekend likely suffocated in the snow after a 30-foot fall knocked him unconscious.

Coroner Carol Huser says 19-year-old Logan Jameson suffered minor internal head injuries when he fell headfirst into the snow at the Durango Mountain Resort. It’s not yet known whether he was wearing a helmet.

Huser says the results of alcohol and drug tests are pending.

The cliff Jameson fell from is outside the ski area boundary.
