FORT COLLINS — The attorney for a woman accused of abusing livestock at her Wellington animal shelter is asking a judge to block the Larimer County Sheriff’s Office from placing the animals in foster care.
Jennifer Thomaidis said she filed a motion in Larimer County District Court on Thursday asking for an injunction to halt the transfer of the 27 animals.
Horses, llamas, ponies and other livestock were seized from Animal Angels Horse Rescue — owned by Alesha Matchett — Dec. 29 after allegations they were malnourished and dehydrated. Most of them have since been cared for at the Larimer County Fairgrounds. But this week, Sheriff Jim Alderden said they would be sent to temporary farms and ranches while a judge determines whether the animals should be returned to Matchett.
Thomaidis said the animals were not abused under Matchett’s care and the county cannot parcel them out because they are Matchett’s property.
