GREELEY, Colo.—A Gill man is dead after a two-vehicle crash involving a pickup and a cement truck in Weld County.
The Colorado State Patrol says 39-year-old Juan Dedios Hernandez-Maldonado was driving a pickup that hit a cement truck about 10 p.m. Monday. The accident happened at the intersection of Weld County roads 49 and 44, southwest of Kersey.
Sergeant Dennis Schenkenberger says a Lochbuie police officer in the area tried to put out the fire with a one-pound fire extinguisher, but the pickup was engulfed within seconds.
The officer was unable to get Hernandez-Maldonado out of the vehicle, and he died at the scene.
The truck driver, 48-year-old Norman Garman of Greeley, was taken to a hospital with chest pains.
The cause of the crash is under investigation.
