DENVER—Colorado Human Services will review the deaths of 12 children who died across the state last year even after social workers visited the families.
Executive Director Karen Beye said Tuesday the deaths prompted her to order a comprehensive review of how risk is assessed and addressed.
The review will look at all state rules on child welfare enacted in 2006 and 2007 and how they were applied in the cases, and whether there were common elements in the deaths.
State officials will send 21 investigators out to complete reviews.
A timetable was not released.
