United Airlines has lowered its $50 roundtrip fuel surcharge, which failed to take hold among most of its competitors.

The fuel surcharge is now $20 roundtrip on most of the routes United flies, according to airline spokeswoman Robin Urbanski.

That’s in line with most other major airlines’ fuel surcharges, according to chief executive Rick Seaney.

United rescinded the increase “to keep competitive with other airlines,” Urbanski said.
