DENVER—A police officer involved in a crash that killed a passenger of another vehicle was issued a summons on two misdemeanor careless driving counts, police said Wednesday.

Ronald Helm was issued a criminal summons and complaint for one count of careless driving resulting in serious bodily injury and one count of careless driving resulting in death stemming from the crash Oct. 7, police said.

Helm was responding to a call to back up another officer at the time of the accident, police have said.

Police have said Helm’s patrol car had its lights and siren on when it collided with the SUV at an intersection.

Ulises Solis, 38, of Denver, died. The crash also injured Helm and the SUV driver.

A phone number for Helm was not listed.
