ARVADA, Colo.—Police said a woman claimed she killed her 87-year-old mother and later told investigators she wanted to go to jail where she could just read books.

Louise Ann Jekowski, 53, made rambling statements to police after she dialed 911 early Jan. 17, saying her mother was no longer breathing and she was ready to go to prison for life, according to an arrest affidavit.

Jekowski, who faces a first-degree murder charge in the death of Ardyce Jekowski, 87, was in custody Monday without bail.

“… she knew she was going to go to jail where she could then just read books,” according to the arrest affidavit.

Jekowski told police that she strangled her mother with a rope, according to a version of the affidavit obtained by the Rocky Mountain News.

Her sister, Barbara Roller of North Hollywood, Calif., contacted police to ask for a welfare check after her sister called claiming she had killed her mother, according to the affidavit.

Roller told police her sister suffers from schizophrenia and wanted officers to check on her mother.

Roller declined to comment when reached by phone by The Associated Press Monday.

A message left for Jekowski’s public defender, Rex Hegyi, was not immediately returned.

Investigators said Jekowski also said she wanted to keep her mother from suffering and didn’t want to take care of her any longer.

“She stated that she just wanted it all to end,” according to the affidavit.
