Reading all the way to the bottom of some “alleged” parking tickets found on windshields in Boulder will lower stress levels and may even elicit a chuckle.

In the fine print of a series of phony parking tickets recently distributed in Boulder, people are told “things could be worse” and they should “get over themselves,” according to Sarah Huntley, Boulder police spokeswoman.

“The foregoing is falsely alleged upon personal initiative,” the tickets divulge. “This ticket hereby notes discredibility.”

In nearly every other respect, the tickets have an appearance of credibility. Vehicle information is recorded and people are to send fines to the Boulder Police Department, according to Huntley.

However, they are instructed to send their check to an address that is not the police department.

Three tickets were reported on Sunday. One had been left on a car in a grocery store parking lot at 1650 30th St. between 4:30 and 5:30 p.m. Two others were located in the parking area near the 29th Street Mall. The department also received three previous complaints, Huntley said.

Actual tickets appear on golden-colored cardstock-style paper. They include a listing of all the code violations and the ticket information is attached to an envelope that gets mailed directly to the city’s municipal court.

The authentic tickets also don’t advise people to get over themselves.
