GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colo.—Real estate sales hit a record $1.22 billion in Garfield County last year.
Land Title Guarantee Company of Glenwood Springs reports total sales increased $177 million or 17 percent from the year before.
The numbers show the first half of the year was much stronger than the second.
Mortgage broker Drew Sakson says three signs point to a cooling-off of the real estate market in the Roaring Fork Valley, which includes Aspen and Glenwood Springs.
Sakson says prices are declining, houses take longer to sell and new laws make it tougher to qualify for mortgages.
Glenwood Springs real estate agent Linda McKinley says demand for houses is still high in the valley and predicts the market will stay strong.
