A 15-year-old boy pleaded guilty in Weld County District Court on Wednesday to vehicular homicide for running over and killing a 9-year-old girl in his father’s Dodge pickup in August.
Carlos Manzo — who was charged as an adult — also pleaded guilty to vehicular assault and leaving the scene of an accident causing death. Manzo will be sentenced Feb. 29 to 12 years in prison and will serve at least six years in the Youth Offenders Services program, according to Weld DA spokeswoman Jennifer Finch.
Manzo was arrested Aug. 27 in connection with the death of 9-year-old Jasmine Hernandez Manriquez and for injuring her 9-year-old cousin, Ibeth Rodriguez. The girls, who were playing in front of their Greeley home, were struck by a truck driven by Manzo, who had taken the truck without permission from his father. Police reports state that witnesses saw Manzo squealing the truck’s tires in forward and reverse when he backed over the girls.
