A former state revenue department employee accused of taking part in a scheme to steal millions from the department pleaded guilty today to racketeering, a felony.

Michelle Cawthra, 31, was a Colorado Department of Revenue supervisor in the Taxpayer Service Division. She was arrested in April 2007 and charged with 67 counts, including racketeering, embezzlement, theft and forgery.

Police say she apparently acted with Hysear Randell and his wife, Trudy, to steal about $11 million in state tax refunds.

Cawthra faces up to 24 years in prison.
