Mountain communities should get more fresh powder piled on an already dense snowpack, and the metro region may get a dusting tonight, according to the National Weather Service.
“There’s a variety of weather warnings over the mountains,” said Scott Entrekin, a Weather Service meteorologist. “There will be heavy snow over the San Juans, but in our local mountains — Summit County — not a huge amount, 3 to 6 inches from tonight until tomorrow.”
In Winter Park and other resorts close to Denver, snow is likely mainly after 11 a.m. Total daytime accumulation could be less than 1 inch. There could be more snow tonight and bone chilling cold, with a wind chill as low as 4 below zero.
Along the metro corridor there is a slight chance of snow this afternoon through tonight.
Heavier snow showers could develop to the east and south of Denver by early this evening. The bands of snow could produce a quick 1 to 2 inches of snowfall in an hour.
Monday afternoon could bring another 3 inches of snow, most of it piling up on the south side of the metro area.
