DENVER—Energy companies have received 80 citations from state and federal regulators who say oil-filled pits leftover from drilling endangered wildlife in northeastern Colorado.
Colorado Oil and Gas Conservation Commission interim director Dave Neslin says it’s unknown whether the citations will result in fines. He says in some cases the violations were corrected.
The Rocky Mountain News reported the citations came between August and November and spanned eight counties. In most cases the alleged violations constituted oil slicks in pits where only water drawn from drilling was supposed to go.
