COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. — A rash of flu cases has forced school officials to cancel classes for two days at an elementary school.
Officials say almost a third of teachers and fifteen percent of students at James Irwin Elementary School were out sick, prompting classes to be canceled Tuesday and Wednesday. Even substitute teachers are sick.
School staff will spend Tuesday cleaning desks, doorknobs, chairs to reduce the spread of the virus. Classes will resume Thursday.
Thirty-six people in El Paso County have been hospitalized because of the flu this year, compared to 26 last year.
