Jefferson County authorities have identified the man suspected in Sunday’s car theft and assault as Nicholas Andrew Ray Finney, 19, of Bennett.
Officials took Finney into custody Sunday after he allegedly stole a Cadillac Escalade, then later entered a home in Genesee and attacked a couple, sending them to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Finney was not identified by authorities until after a photo line-up.
Officials believe he entered the couple’s home through an open garage door, struck the woman over the head with a golf club and fought the man who lived there.
Authorities have recovered the Cadillac Escalade. Finney had allegedly abandoned it before he assaulted the couple.
Finney is being held at the Jefferson County Jail on charges including attempted murder, burglary and theft.
