DENVER—A one-time employee of the former Rocky Flats nuclear weapons plant near Golden is being remembered as a positive person who never complained, despite disfiguring brain tumors that would eventually kill him.

Douglas DelForge died Sunday at the age of 46. He worked at Rocky Flats for 21 years, using glove boxes to work on radioactive materials, and later, taking part in decontamination work at the site.

He died six days after receiving a check from the U.S. Department of Labor for permanent disability, but before ever receiving federal aid to cover lost wages.

DelForge had applied for aid six years ago, and was approved just 14 months ago. His death means the Labor Department will never have to cut the check.

A memorial service is scheduled Friday.
