Xcel Energy’s natural-gas customers in Colorado will see a 5 percent hike in their March bills compared with the same month a year ago, the utility said today in its monthly gas cost-adjustment filing with state regulators.

If regulators approve the price adjustment, the typical residential bill for March will be $98.44, an increase of $4.95 from March 2007, Xcel said.

Xcel does not profit from an increase or decrease in the commodity price for natural gas, which gets passed on to customers on a dollar-for-dollar basis.

Projected natural-gas costs for March are slightly higher than the forecast used this month, partly because of seasonal demand. The levels of natural gas in storage are still lower than those reported for last year, Xcel said.
