DETROIT—Red Wings star defenseman Nicklas Lidstrom is expected to have his right knee examined Wednesday, two days after being injured in a game at Colorado.

Lidstrom hobbled off the ice after he was slammed into the boards by Ian Laperriere of the Avalanche in the first period Monday night.

After beating the Avalanche 4-0, Detroit coach Mike Babcock said Lidstrom will “probably end up with a few days off.”

Babcock says it could be a week or 10 days off for the winner of five of the past six Norris Trophies.

The Red Wings are idle until playing Friday night at Calgary.
