Ron Zappolo, a 30-year veteran of the Denver market, has re-upped with Fox affiliate KDVR-Channel 31.
Zappolo, who had options out of town, said he never really felt like he was going to leave.
Re-signing now for several years likely means he’ll finish his career at Channel 31. “The overwhelming odds are, yes,” he said. “I’d be stupid to leave.”
Since its launch in 2000, the Fox 9 p.m. newscast has been dominant in its time slot. Stability being a rare commodity in TV news, it is worth noting that Zappolo and co-anchor Libby Weaver are the longest running late news anchor team in Denver.
Zappolo, 56, acknowledges that he is “out of the demo,” but has enjoyed a successful run at the young-skewing station.
In addition to his various broadcast achievements, Zappolo was honored with having his name dropped in an episode of “South Park” last year.
