A Joring Experience

The annual Crystal Carnival and Ski Joring Festival wraps up today in Leadville, a spectacle more than worth the gas required for the drive. A skier towed by a teammate on horseback navigates jumps and spears rings in a timed competition. Teams compete for sizable cash rewards. Don’t miss the broomball games, which give ski joring stiff competition in the odd-sports category. So does the snowshoe race for teens, which requires competitors to run while holding a full cup of water. 8 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. today, Harrison Avenue in downtown Leadville.
