Hazmat crews from Loveland and Greeley were dispatched to the Eastman Kodak plant campus in Windsor tonight where multiple buildings owned by a company called Carestream were evacuated because of a possible chemical spill.
Lt. Todd Vess, spokesman for the Windsor-Severance Fire Department, said the call came into fire officials from the facility at 7:30 p.m.
He said the initial call reported “multiple patients.”
“When we got to the scene, we determined they had evacuated and there were no patients,” Vess said.
Vess said that four buildings owned by Carestream, a manufacturer of X-ray film and photographic color paper, were evacuated.
A total of 53 people left the buildings under a Carestream evacuation plan. He said all the Carestream employees have been accounted for.
He said no one who evacuated the buildings asked for medical treatment.
Vess said the employees said there was an odor that officials believed was being spread through the complex by the ventilation system. He said the major complaint of the employees was sore throats.
The odor was detected in three of the four buildings.
He said hazmat crews were preparing to enter the buildings about 9 p.m. in order to find the source of the odor.
“Nobody reported spilling anything or seeing a spill,” Vess said.
But he said that the hazmat crews want to thoroughly search the building for spills and leaking pipes or containers.
