DENVER—Yet another snow storm is headed to Colorado’s mountains. This one could bring up to a foot of new snow to the highest elevations and blizzard conditions to areas south of Denver and in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains through Sunday.

Even the Denver area, which reached a record high 74 degrees Saturday, could get a dusting of snow Sunday as temperatures plunge. The previous record was 73, set in 1974.

The avalanche risk is considered moderate to considerable in most mountain areas. A snow slide Saturday afternoon closed westbound U.S. 40 over Berthoud Pass for close to an hour.

The statewide snowpack was 132 percent of the 30-year average Saturday.

Wolf Creek Ski Area, which has a 144-inch base, says it is extending its season by a week until April 13 and also will be open the two weekends after that.
