Skies are expected to be sunny today in Denver with high afternoon temperatures warming up into the lower 40s, but there’s a slight chance of snow for the city by mid-week.
Tomorrow will be mostly sunny in Denver and warmer still – with high temperatures approaching 50 – but cloudy skies on Tuesday night will bring a 20 percent chance of snow that should spill over into Wednesday and Thursday, according to the National Weather Service.
A Pacific storm, much like that one that hit Colorado this past weekend, is heading for the state and should bring snow to the mountains on Tuesday, the weather service reports.
The weather service forecast for Vail calls for a 40 percent chance of snow on Tuesday, a 60 percent chance on Wednesday and 50 percent chance on Thursday.
Areas along the Continental Divide, Vail Pass and the northwestern San Juans should get the most moisture out of the approaching system and snow fall in other mountain areas should be spotty and limited. The approaching Pacific front should also keep daytime high temperatures in the mountains below normal through the week, mostly in the mid 20s to mid 30s.
Areas south and southeast of Denver today will be a little colder – with high temperatures in the upper 30s – than the rest of the metro area because of deeper snow cover left from Sunday’s storm.
Tonight in Denver and along the Front Range winds should pick up, according to the weather service, and gusts could hit up to 65 mph in the higher foothills of Boulder and Larimer counties.
