COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.—A district judge has agreed to move the attempted murder trial of a man already convicted of killing a Colorado Springs police detective.
Fourth Judicial District Judge Larry Schwartz ruled Monday in the case of 32-year-old Jereme Lamberth. He is accused of stabbing his sister, Melanie Schweinhardt, in the face 13 times in February 2006.
Schwartz agreed with Lamberth’s defense that he cannot receive a fair trial in El Paso County because of media coverage of his murder trial.
Lamberth was found guilty of second-degree murder last month in the February 2006 shooting death of 30-year-old police Detective Jared Jensen. Jensen was trying to arrest Lamberth on the attempted murder warrant when Jensen was shot in the face.
Lamberth’s attempted murder trial is scheduled to start May 6th.
