A sanctuary for discarded wolves and wolf-hybrids in rural Larimer County is suing the county’s Board of Commissioners for turning down its request to expand the facility to allow for more wayward wolves.
Wolves Offered Life and Friendship (WOLF) filed a lawsuit today in Larimer County District Court asking that the commissioner’s Feb. 4 decision be overturned.
Frank Wendland, co-founder of WOLF, said the commissioners “relied upon incomplete and incorrect information in making their decision. We have met every demand and done everything required of us for the past eight years — and without neighbor complaints.”
The sanctuary, in rugged Rist Canyon, currently houses 30 wolves and wolf hybrids on 5 acres. The expansion called for adding 30 more wolves on a total of 30 acres.
Larimer County officials couldn’t immediately be reached for comment today.
