Wyoming, with 12 pledged delegates, is the next stop on the Democratic presidential nominating schedule.

And though Wyoming is the least populous state and last voted for a Democratic presidential candidate when Lyndon Johnson trounced Barry Goldwater nationwide in 1964, party officials haven’t given up hope of seeing Barack Obama or Hillary Rodham Clinton within their borders before Democrats caucus on Saturday.

“It’s important for the Clinton campaign to keep going on, and it’s important for the Obama campaign to end things quickly,” state party chair John Millin said.

Former President Bill Clinton is scheduled to be in Riverton, Rock Springs and Laramie on Thursday, the campaign announced.

With or without a candidate in sight, party officials are bracing for a record turnout.

The rule of thumb, Millin said, is: “Try to remember the biggest party caucus ever, and multiply by 10.”
