COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.—A judge has overturned a decision that would have moved the trial of a Colorado Springs mother out of El Paso County.
Forty-year-old Deborah Nicholls is charged with first-degree murder, child abuse and other counts in connection with a fire that killed her three children.
She’s scheduled to stand trial June 2nd.
A judge previously ruled that Nicholls’ trial should be moved to Alamosa because of media coverage of her estranged husband’s trial last year. Timothy Nicholls is serving three life sentences after a jury convicted him of felony murder in the deaths.
But 4th Judicial District Judge Steven Pelican ruled Deborah Nicholls can get a fair trial in El Paso County.
Jay, Sophia and Sierra Nicholls died in a fire at their home March 7th, 2003.
