GRAND JUNCTION — A man serving 222 years behind bars for two shooting incidents in Mesa County is set to stand trial today on charges in Garfield County, including attempted murder.
Samuel Lincoln was sentenced in January to 144 years in prison for shooting at sheriff’s deputies in 2005, and 78 years for trying to kill a man in a desert that same year.
Now, Lincoln is accused in the 2004 bayonet stabbing of a man in Glenwood Springs.
Ninth Judicial District Attorney Martin Beeson acknowledged the sentences Lincoln received in Mesa County, but said it’s still important to prosecute.
Beeson says the victim deserves his day in court, and that there’s always a chance Lincoln could successfully appeal his Mesa County cases.
Lincoln’s trial is slated to last five days.
