A suspected police impersonator used a flashing red light to pull over a 17-year-old girl on Morrison Road, just west of Kipling Parkway, over the weekend.
The suspect pulled the girl over at about 8:30 p.m. Saturday and asked whether she had been drinking and where she was going, said Steve Davis, Lakewood police spokesman.
But he did not ask the girl for her driver’s license or insurance information, Davis said.
The man was about 5-foot-9, 215 pounds with dark hair and dark eyes. He had a buzz-cut hairstyle as well as a mustache. The suspect, who drove a white car, was wearing a dark blue short-sleeve uniform that did not include a badge. He was not wearing a gun holster, Davis said.
The man had a scar on his right eyebrow by the temple, and he spoke in a deep voice.
Police determined that there were no Lakewood officers in the area at the time, Davis said.
If a person questions the authenticity of someone making a traffic stop, they should acknowledge the person and drive slowly to a well-lit area where other people are nearby before stopping. They may call police to confirm they are being stopped by an officer, Davis said.
