BEAVER CREEK, Colo.—A memorial service for record-setting adventurer and business tycoon Steve Fossett is planned for March 20 in Beaver Creek.
The part-time Beaver Creek resident’s adventures included circling the world in a balloon, plane and sailboat, swimming the English Channel and competing in the Iditarod Sled Dog Race.
Fossett was last seen Sept. 3, when his single-engine plane took off from an airstrip near Yerington, in Nevada.
A rescue effort that involved dozens of planes and helicopters was officially suspended after more than a month of searching across 20,000 square miles of the rugged western Nevada mountains. Fossett was declared dead last month.
He was 63.
