March Madness, meet March Sadness.
Just once, wouldn’t you like to see a team from the Front Range in the NCAA basketball tournament? Or at least sweating it out on Selection Sunday?
Sure, Air Force has made an appearance or two in recent years, and Chauncey Billups got the Buffs to the field of 65. But for the most part, the Big Dance is a big bummer for local college hoops junkies.
All I hear when I broach this subject is that Colorado isn’t much for college basketball, doesn’t really care about it, doesn’t get too worked up about it.
Well, duh.
Maybe the fans aren’t the problem. Maybe the teams are. Maybe we need a local school to get us excited about basketball in March.
The best bet do it? CU, with Jeff Bzdelik prowling the sideline. But if you’ve seen the Buffs this season, you know it isn’t going to happen any time soon.
