Although a woman was struck by a beefy street thug, she desperately clung to her purse while she was dragged down a sidewalk in downtown Denver, according to a videotape of the crime.
The suspect pulled out a knife and slashed the purse straps but still did not manage to wrest the purse from the woman at 10 p.m. on Tuesday, the video shows.
The woman was walking in front of 930 15th St. when the unidentified robber grabbed her purse, said Sonny Jackson, Denver police spokesman.
The man hit the woman, knocking her to the ground, then repeatedly yanked the purse while dragging the woman down the sidewalk, Jackson said. When the thief couldn’t get the purse — even after cutting the straps — he gave up, turned and bolted.
The suspect is described as 30 to 49 years old, about 5-foot-10 with a “high and tight” haircut. He was wearing a white shirt with a black jacket.
