DENVER—A Colorado semipro football team says place-kicker Katie Hnida (NY’-da), the first woman to score in a Division I football game, is in the running for a roster spot.

Hnida had a bitter experience as a walk-on with the University of Colorado, saying she was raped by a teammate in 2000. She transferred to New Mexico in 2002 and made history by kicking two extra points in 2003.

Lou Florez, owner and head coach of the newly formed Colorado Cobras of the Colorado Conference, said Tuesday the 26-year-old Hnida is among about 90 players trying out for the newly formed team.

Florez says he expects she will be one of two kickers on the roster.

Hnida has no listed phone number and couldn’t be reached.
