A Lucerne man was severely injured defending himself from two men who broke into his home.

The 55-year-old man, who hasn’t been identified, was home with his wife waiting for a guest when two men knocked on their door last Friday night, according to the Weld County Sheriff’s Office.

The two broke the door off its hinges and forced their way into the house.

“He was expecting somebody at that same time so he initially opened the door. When he recognized it was two home invaders he tried to close it and there was a violent struggle and they broke in,” said Weld County Deputy Shane Scofield.

“He was pistol-whipped in the face and that is what resulted in the injuries.”

After the assault in the 18000 block of Elm Street the attackers fled east in a mid-sized, dark passenger car.

The car left so quickly that a third person could have been behind the wheel waiting.

The victim didn’t know his attackers.

Both suspects are described as dark-haired Hispanic males in their mid twenties, between 5 foot and 5 foot 8 inches, and approximately 140 pounds. One suspect has light brown skin and the other has dark brown skin.

Detectives ask that anyone with information contact the Weld County Sheriff’s Office at 970-304-6464.
