A 27-year-old Fort Morgan man has been charged with vehicular homicide and driving under the influence after his SUV veered into oncoming traffic and killed two people in a head-on collision.
Jose G. Villanueva, 27, has also been charged with driving without a license and without insurance, according to court records.
The fatal collision happened at about 7:35 p.m. on March 13 in rural Weld County on Colorado Highway 34.
Diane R. Bouck and Douglas A. Bouck, both 42, of Otis, were killed and another man was seriously injured, according to the Colorado State Patrol.
The night of the collision Villanueva was taken by helicopter to Northern Colorado Medical Center in Greeley in serious condition. He was released from the hospital on Sunday.
Villanueva was driving a black 1991 Nissan Pathfinder west on the Colorado 34 when he veered into the eastbound lane and crashed head-on into the Boucks’ 1998 Ford Mustang. The Pathfinder spun and caught fire.
The Weld County coroner pronounced the Boucks dead at the scene, the state patrol said.
Villanueva appeared in court in Weld County on Wednesday to face formal charges and his bond was set at $150,000.
