Leaf lettuce seeds can be planted within a few inches of each other without reducing yield. I grow lettuce mix, from Pinetree Garden Seeds (super ), in a 3-by-3-foot space.
You can save space by growing vining veggies — pole beans, cucumbers, peas — on a trellis or wire fence. If you don’t have a place for a trellis, try Spacemaster cucumber.
Burpee’s Early Pick is a good choice for an indeterminate tomato. It produces early, good-sized fruit, and the plants are not nearly as large as other varieties, but stake them to save space.
All herb varieties can be grown in 12-inch pots and will thrive with frequent watering.
