Denver International Airport asked the City Council to postpone the awarding of a five-year, $70 million airport parking management contract for two weeks so the new airport manager, Kim Day, can review the deal.
Last week, a council committee tentatively approved Standard Parking to manage the operation. Ampco System Parking is the current operator.
Some council members said because Standard proposed a management fee so much lower than Ampco’s, they are concerned that Standard might seek concessions from unionized parking-management employees.
The situation is further complicated by the Service Employees International Union, which represents airport parking employees. They said possible increases in health care costs could lead them to strike during the Democratic National Convention in August.
