Celebrants on their way to Red Rocks this morning for the sunrise service awoke to a light snow on the ground, but that didn’t deter thousands from heading to the natural amphitheater.

The sun came up at 6:58 a.m., and the Easter service sponsored by the Colorado Council of Churches went on as planned.

The service was free, although attendees were asked to bring nonperishable food items, and an offering was collected to offset costs.

That early morning snow should melt as the day progresses. The National Weather Service forecast for the Denver area today calls for sunny skies this afternoon, with highs in the upper 40s.
