COLORADO SPRINGS — A slain woman had told police that her estranged husband had told her to get ready to “take a bullet” two days before she was killed.

Colleen Dwyer, 34, was shot and killed Wednesday by Russell Dwyer, 39, who killed himself, police said.

Police reports obtained by The Gazette revealed the conversation Monday where Colleen Dwyer told police about the alleged threat and that her husband, an Iraq war veteran, had a gun. Colleen Dwyer was told to get a restraining order and was referred to a Domestic Violence Enhanced Response Team.

Colorado Springs police spokesman Lt. Skip Arms said because the threat was made over the phone, the highest possible charge would have been harassment, a misdemeanor.
