Getting your player ready...

It’s far from the cheapest suit on the market, but Kokatat’s new and improved Gore-Tex Meridian dry suit (MSRP: $975) may very well serve as the seventh step to gear nirvana for kayakers this spring.

With three-layer nylon Gore-Tex waterproofing extending down to your toes, factory- sealed seems, latex gaskets and a waterproof Optiseal chest zipper, this sturdy, breathable suit keeps liquid out and warmth in — no matter how harsh the conditions. Furthering that cause, the suit now known as the GMER has been updated with the key addition of a “relief” zipper (a women’s model is available as a special order).

The GMER includes several kayak-specific design features, including competition cut underarms, Cordura patches reinforcing the seat and knees and an adjustable overskirt with a Smoothskin neoprene waistband to keep your skirt sealed and cockpit dry.

Dropping a grand on a single piece of gear may seem a little decadent, until you start sloshing around in spring Colorado snowmelt. Then it will seem like a lifesaver.
