Fresh off a 14-point victory over Gonzaga, the Colorado women’s basketball team will host Villanova at 7 p.m. today in a third-round game of the Women’s National Invitation Tournament at the Coors Events Center.

Colorado (17-14) received a first-round bye before eliminating Gonzaga 82-68 on Monday, the Buffaloes’ first postseason victory since 2003. Big East-member Villanova (17-15) reached the WNIT third round by defeating American and Wisconsin.

Tonight’s winner advances to the WNIT quarterfinals against the winner of Wednesday night’s matchup between Texas Tech and Texas Christian. The date and site of the quarterfinal game is to be determined. Tom Kensler, The Denver Post

14ers fall in Los Angeles.

The Los Angeles D-Fenders (30-13) of the NBA D-League led from start to finish, getting 10 or more points from each of its starters in a 101-90 victory over the visiting Colorado 14ers at the Staples Center. Colorado (23-19) was led by Eric Osmundson’s 18 points.

Buffs ranked No. 21.

The United States Track and Field rankings placed the University of Colorado men at No. 21 to start the outdoor season. Florida State is No. 1, followed by Louisiana State. The Buffs are led by Brent Vaughn, a two-time Big 12 Conference champion in the 5,000 meters.

CU tennis streak snapped.

The 27th-ranked Louisiana State women’s tennis team held off an upset bid to edge visiting Colorado 4-3 in Baton Rouge, La., snapping the Buffaloes’ winning streak at five matches. At No. 1 singles, the Tigers’ Megan Falcon defeated CU’s Monica Milewski 6-1, 6-2.

Nebraska downs Northern Colorado.

Nick Sullivan, a Pomona High School graduate, hit an RBI double, Jake Mort stole home in a five-run third inning and Jake Opitz, from Heritage High School, broke open the game with a two-run single in the eighth in Nebraska’s 9-4 victory over Northern Colorado.

Nebraska (19-3-1) has swept six games versus Northern Colorado (7-17), which played 22 straight road games to open the season.
