Getting your player ready...
TUCSON — Jayson Nix, who arrived at spring training with a chance of becoming the Rockies’ starting second baseman, fulfilled that dream.
Today he received an extra bonus when he was named the Abbey Greer Award winner as the club’s most valuable player in spring training. After a slow start, Nix came on strong and is now hitting .273 with three homers.
Nix joins some illustrious company. Last year’s winner was shortstop Troy Tulowitzki who went on to have one of the greatest seasons ever by a rookie shortstop.
