LONGMONT, Colo.—The St. Vrain Valley School District says it will eliminate 85 jobs for the next school year, and most will be teaching positions.

The Longmont-based district announced the cuts on Wednesday.

School officials say the move will save about $4.5 million and help keep the district’s budget in the black.

Officials say the cuts will mean an average of 1.75 more students in each class.

The district has 24,000 students in 44 schools and covers parts of Boulder, Broomfield, Larimer and Weld counties
