Jose Theodore knows there are people out there who think he’s only having a good season because he’s in the last year of his contract.

“There’s nothing I can do about what people think,” the Avalanche goalie said. “But there’s no difference in how I’ve approached this year from any other year. I could have a 10-year contract right now, and I’d try to play the same way and do the same things I am now.”

Theodore, making $6 million, can be an unrestricted free agent July 1. His agent, Don Meehan, said there have been no formal discussions with the Avalanche about an extension.

Roy reaction.

Avs forward Peter Forsberg was surprised to see Jonathan Roy, son of former teammate Patrick Roy, receive a seven-game suspension for a brouhaha in a recent major junior playoff game.

But Forsberg wasn’t as surprised at the elder Roy’s quick temper in the game.

“We saw it a couple of times with us,” Forsberg said. “Patty is just a competitor and intense, and wants to win.”

Foote still out.

Adam Foote skated for about 30 minutes Wednesday morning, but coach Joel Quenneville said his hip was still too sore to return to the lineup.

Footnotes.

Milan Hejduk moved into fifth place on the Avalanche franchise’s all-time games played list, at 697. . . . Theodore entered the game with the NHL’s third-lowest goals-against average (2.13) since Jan. 1. . . . Paul Stastny has points in his last seven games. But the Avs center does not have an “official” point streak because he missed one game in that stretch with the flu.
