ALAMOSA, Colo.—State health officials say Alamosa residents can now use city water for drinking, cooking, making ice and brushing teeth—as long as it is boiled for one minute.

Since March 19, after several cases of salmonella and tests showing bacteria in the water, residents have been warned not to use water straight from the tap.

During a multiday flush and disinfection of the water system, residents were told to only use city water for flushing toilets. Businesses have donated bottled water, hand sanitizers and facilities for residents to shower.

There have been at least 343 cases of salmonella reported, with 91 cases confirmed, including 13 people who required hospitalization.
